In the fight – Mallory Dobbs on her WorldWCR season so far
Barry RussellWith two rounds from six down in the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship, we checked in with Mallory Dobbs to get her view of the season so far.
Enjoying some quality time back at home and preparing for MotoAmerica Super Hooligans at The Ridge at the end of June, Mallory was upbeat.
“Overall, I’ve made a good start to my second season in WorldWCR and I feel like I’m in the fight. That’s partly thanks to my familiarity with the European racing scene and the World Superbike paddock, and what I learned about riding the Yamaha R7 in 2024.
“The first round was Assen. It’s an incredible track, and my first time there, so with just two 25-minute sessions for practice and qualifying, learning it was a challenge. For instance, I found that rolling off the throttle a fraction to early, or opening it a fraction too late could cost two seconds a lap. I improved through the weekend, though, and my best race lap was three seconds quicker than my qualifying time. And I came away with three points.
“Round 2 at Cremona was promising. I qualified 11 th , but was taken out on lap 3 in Race 1 when another rider came into Turn 2 out of control and hit my back wheel. In Race 2 I picked up another five points for finishing 12th .”
Mallory is looking ahead to Round 3 at Donington Park in July. Like Cremona, Belaton and Jerez, the legendary British track was on the 2024 WorldWCR calendar.
“Donington suits my style, with its mostly open layout and sweeping curves, so I should be able to build on my results there. If we get rain, it could be even better!”
Acknowledging the additional demands of running her own team – Diva Racing - in foreign lands, Mallory added, “Sure, it’s a lot to think about and organize, but my crew chief and mechanic are brilliant, and I get lots of support and encouragement from folks throughout the World Superbike paddock.”
Mallory’s KYT helmet design has been drawing eyeballs too, with more than 10,000 views. “The reaction to my helmet has been off the charts. So much so, that I might even raffle one off later in the season!”
